Rainbow Cake with Swirl Rose Decorations

Sarah had a cake walk at school this week and I decided it was time to try my hand at a rainbow cake. I've seen a few variations of this cake on different sites here is what I came up with.  I did have grander plans for the outside of the cake, but since I'm less than two weeks away from delivery, I decided to forgo fondant decorations.  Well, that and I still need practice on my butter cream piping techniques.  Overall, it was a fun cake to make and I think I'm going to try it again for Brenna's birthday in August.

 Before the icing...
 Can you taste the rainbow?
 Little dots and swirl roses.

Easter Cupcakes

I made these for my daughters class party today.  They are chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing and a fondant topper.

After cutting out all the flowers, I went in and detailed them (all 60 of them).  I did not have a cutter small enough for the leaves, so each one is made by hand with details added in.

Spring Birthday and Anniversary Celebration Cake

I made this cake to celebrate four birthdays and an anniversary that occurred in March.  My husband, his sister and parents were all born in March. His parents were married in March as well! We meant to get together last month, but my mother-in-laws chemo was pushed out and we had to move it to April.

The cake is chocolate and vanilla (6" round), cut to form a checker board pattern.  It's covered in butter cream with fondant and gum paste decorations.

Princess Castle Cake

A friend requested a special cake for her daughter's birthday. The cake used the Wilton Romantic Castle set. It's butter cream with gum paste flowers. The turret tops and other purple decorations are made of royal icing that has been coated in sparkling sugar. The top layer is a white cake with an Oreo filling and the bottom is chocolate cake with a chocolate filling

Oliver Cast Party Cake

My talented husband played Bill Sykes (from Oliver) in a local theatre production.  This cake was made to serve up to 50 people. The bottom layer is plain pound cake, the middle chocolate pound cake and the top is lemon pound cake.  It's covered entirely in fondant and has a few gold covered chocolate coins. The top hat represents the costumes of many of the characters.  The books mirror those that were part of the set.
